The national teacher of the year is a retired army colonel
Chauncey Veatch, a retired army colonel who began teaching at his California high school in 1999 is the 52nd National Teacher of the Year. He tells his students "... our class is like a wagon train heading out ... to reach our goal...an education. No one will be thrown overboard; no one will be left behind. Together we are all going to get there."
