No other book on home education has encouraged more teenagers to "rise out" of school than Grace Llewellyn’s Teenage Liberation Handbook. Seven years and many liberated teens later, she has evolved into a recognizable, respected voice that unschoolers embrace. It isn’t that Grace preaches rebellion or even that her message is revolutionary. Very simply, talking with Grace is an organic experience. For anyone who has admired or attempted to be natural, the words and endeavors exhaled from Grace’s mouth breathe with a perpetual aura of inspiration. Enthusiasm, boundless creativity, the energy from following one’s own passion: all are characteristics of unschoolers, all are abundantly evident in its chief proponent. Grace isn’t superhuman, however. Rather, her legion of miscues are pronounced and prominent, open for public display. Whether uttering "um" two-hundred times in a single, hour-long presentation or starting an unprofitable business venture, it doesn’t take a detective to find her human vulnerability. That vulnerability, coupled with vibrancy and activity, is what inspires. If Grace can be human and engaged to her dreams, doesn’t it follow that we can, too?About Grace Llewellyn
