Lawsuit: Girl raped after driver kicked her off school bus

A Thornton High School student was abducted by three masked men and gang-raped after she was kicked off a school bus in Harvey, a lawsuit filed Tuesday charges.

According to the suit naming Thornton Township High School District 205, Kickert Bus Line and bus driver Nicole Dyer, the unnamed minor was on her way home from school July 11 when some students shot off fireworks on the bus. Dyer became upset and kicked all the students off the bus, leaving them to walk home.

The unnamed girl walked about a mile through a "high-crime" neighborhood in south suburban Harvey, where three men kidnapped her, took her to an unknown location and "gang-raped her for hours," the suit claims.

"This is a terrible situation created by the school district and school bus company. They have a special duty to protect students and transport these people," said the girl's lawyer, Jeffrey Deutschman. "It was foreseeable that something bad would happen. That's why the school drops students close to their home. Otherwise, they would drop them off at a central point and have them walk from there. They don't do that because it's dangerous."

District 205 Supt. J. Kamala Buckner declined to comment.

The lawsuit, filed in Cook County Circuit Court by the girl's mother, seeks more than $200,000 in damages.
