Respect

"If you expect respect, be the first to show it".

People might say that if you want a teacher to show you respect, you should show them respect first and they will return the attitude. From my own experience and what I've heard from others, that doesn't work. Here's why: Teachers seem to have a slightly twisted view of respect. To many of them, it seems respect is when a student views the teacher as HIGHER than them. Meanwhile, the respect that students are generally after is for teacher and student to be on the same level.

Anyway, this is just a quick thought I had and figured I might as well write it down. I may add to it some other time :)
