UK: Uniforms plan to boost exam marks
Two Derby schools are to bring back strict school uniforms in an attempt to improve pupil's behaviour and results.
The school shirt, tie and blazer is to be reintroduced in September at Derby Moor Community Sports College and The Woodlands Community School.
Wendy Frater, headteacher at Derby Moor, is hoping the more business-like clothing will improve exam results.
The school saw just 47% of pupils achieving five or more A-C grades at GCSE level.
Labels banned
It replaced blazers with sweatshirts and polo shirts several years ago.
Mrs Frater said: "I believe that having the uniform will help pupils to be professional and help them with their learning."
It is also hoped the adoption of a traditional uniform will prompt a decrease in bullying as designer labels on shoes and clothing will be banned.
Religious dress has also been incorporated into the uniform with the school colours being plain black and white.
The headteacher of The Woodlands Community School, the second school bringing back blazers, Alan Brady has also said he hoped it would be a fresh start for the school which would improve results.
