The United States Is Reclassifying Public Documents

Through a secret program headed by the National Archives, several intelligence agencies are classifying documents which were previously declassified. More than 55,000 pages have been reclassified in the seven year program. The program was intended to protect sensitive information which was declassified in haste following the 1995 declassification act signed by President Bill Clinton. However, since 2001 the Bush Administration has dramatically accelerated the program. According to the National Archives 9,500 documents have been reclassified since the programs inception, with 8,000 of them being reclassified since President Bush took office.
