What moron would call that "missing opportunities?" Are you kidding me? That would have been a GODSEND! I could've potentially graduated early in just 2 years instead of the 4 I was REQUIRED to take. No, there was no early graduation at my school.
My school thought we weren't taking full advantage of our "education and learning" resources. ie: They received more funding because they were able to keep more kids stuck in that cramped hell hole. Funny enough, we had more drop outs than all of the other district schools combined! You'd think they would notice the problem.
Also in regards to "missed opportunities" (yeah right):
PE - Waste of resources & time. (We were required to take a full year of PE and a full year of health. Talk about retarded.)
Arts - Don't care at all. Was never required.
Electives - Computer Science was the best and most useful class I ever took in 13 years of torture and boredom (aka school). Math (specifically calculus and discrete math) was also useful, but still boring, mostly because of the idiots I had to take it with that were incredibly slow at grasping concepts. Physics helped too...somewhat.
Everything else = complete and utter waste of time and energy.
