Fox News makes factually incorrect report regarding a sex scene in the new sci-fi RPG 'Mass Effect'.

---
BioWare's Mass Effect has been receiving some very critical "reporting" from Fox News, which in turn has received a great deal of backlash.

Mass Effect developed for Microsoft Xbox 360 by BioWare has been receiving some interesting press that started with a panel discussion on Fox News. The report called "SE'XBOX", started on "Live Desk With Martha MacCallum" over the sexual and violent content in the game. It was fairly clear that the panelists had not played the game as one panelist described the scene in the game as "Luke Skywalker meets Debbie Does Dallas". The panelists stated that their concern was that the scene showed "full digital nudity and sex".

I played the game through twice and the first time through, the choices I made left that scene out of the game for me. But on the second time through after more than 35 hours of game play with not one bit of adult content, I did see what I would describe as an adult love scene that is about what one would see on network television. As for violence, yes, the game is violent as a human joins alien races to kill machines that are trying to take over the universe. Yes there is some human and alien death scenes but they are not gratuitously violent. Of course the ESRB DID issue an "M" for Mature rating for the game.

Now the backlash from this erroneous report by gamers was intense as they took to the Internet with their writing hands on. Cooper Lawrence was one of the panelists and was clearly misinformed, so gamers took to Amazon.com and wrote their opinions in the form of reviews of his book. Amazon has since removed those reviews.

Since the release of Mass Effect, Electronic Arts had purchased BioWare and so has become involved in the conflict. In a letter written to Fox News, VP of communications Jeff Brown said that the coverage was insulting to the creators of the game which has been acclaimed by critics for its high creative standards, (receiving a 9.3 out of 10 HERE on GameSHOUT). Mr. Brown requested that Fox retract its statements about the game, appealing to the network's sense of fairness and correct the record.

To date this retraction has not taken place. Though Fox News has released a statement that it has extended several invitations to Electronic Arts through a company representative to appear on "Live Desk with Martha MacCallum" to discuss Mass Effect which aired last Monday but Fox claims that they received no response from EA Games.

Martha Mcaullum and Cooper Lawerence got gamers up in arms after they slammed the game as porn after they never even played the game.

Now remember, to get to the sex scene, you have to make specific choices through out. If you do finally get to the sex scene, you'll be greeted with PG-13 fare.

So far, fox has not made an amendment.
