Read Feedback

This page is a collection of the most memorable feedback I've received about this site since I started it in March 1999. I haven't edited any, and it's a collection of both positive and negative comments. They are listed in more or less chronological order.

From: Tamara

I've been looking for a site like this one for the longest time. FINALLY I found it. To me the secret to life is common sense. Your site is full of it. I love it!

From: Phil

I run a Zine @ my local high school (my staff & I hope 2 spread to other local schools soon) & I would like to request that you let us use some of the work from your website in our paper. I will be sure to give you full credit and write your IP address below your articles. Thanks for making such a great site!

From: Jess Boan

I'm writing an essay (on myown free will) on corrupt government, brainwashing in school and people taking advantage of society. I wish to publish the brain washing in schools part ojn your site, if its ok with you guys.

From: charleine

I think that this web site sucks.... It is really negative and does not show the right aspects of school. Sure, there are rules and homeworks, but through school, you are able to make friends and when you will be done with your highschool, you will still have very good memories of the era. I think that you are a very creative person, but you should try to put your energy in a more constructive project (also more positive)

From: Adam Fletcher

I really like what you did on the site, and I'm anxious to point other people to it. You had some really smooth stuff there.
If you've got any links or anything you think should be on freechild.org send them to me. When you get schoolsurvival back up lemme know first, and we'll feature it on the front page.
I look forward to hearing from you.

An exelant site lacking very little and suppling an endless supply of rebelious fun!

From: josh

this site is the best. never take it off the web. people need to know these things so that they dont become victems of the system

From: Alex Koroknay-Palicz

Excellent page. I can't believe I haven't found it till now. There is a general lack of connection between Youth Rights organizations and people. Consider this an invitation to link up to other Youth Rights groups. I am from the National Youth Rights Association, I could go on about my organization, but you can just investigate yourself at: www.youthrights.org.
Please check out the page, and *please* get back to me, I am very interested in both School Survival and RATS. We need to work together. Send me a reply.

Name: kat w

Hello my name is Kat and I wrote an essay pointing out and crediting many of your excellent ideas on this site and now it might have the chance for some very influential people to read it. I was wondering if I could credit your real name instead of just "soul riser" and the URL. thank you.

From: Kyle

I have to say, that even though I'm in 8th grade, I could not agree more with your ideas. I'm glad to see that there are others who realize that a "schooling" and an "education" are NOT the same thing.

From: thedesk123

This site is a great resource of information and I find it very helpful and interesting. Please do not take down this site. School is something that I find very hard to get through and I find this site to help get through school. I agree that education is very important but I often find that school is not always educational. As you have written alot that we learn in school we do not later use. Enen though I greatly dislike school and highly disagree in how it is often run I still need to go through it. Schooling has become a symbol of knoledge and today peoples' intelligence is often judged by heir schooling and grades. I disagree with this system becuaese a person without 20 years of schooling can also be a genius. Many previous successful people are examples of this. I do not agree with todays school intelligence standard but I still have to go by it. Changing the system would have to be done by the majority of teachers and students together which would be almos t impossible to do. I often think school is a great thing because of the knolege it gives us. Even though I think school is a magnificent place fo education, I also find it to often be waste of time. This site is helping me get through the hardships of school not by inspiring me to cheat my way through, even though it is helful :), but by being a source of positive guidance during the rough times of school.

From: Theresa B

You must have joined the illuminati, girl, to go back on what you've been saying this whole time-I mean I can understand how you can change your mind but I think you were finally caught - I mean they'd have to have caught to make you tel us to work with this system that don't work. Go read DavidIcke.com . I'm sorry I'm alittle into conspiracies -don't listen to me- but this is just a little weird. -T  [This was in response to an April Fool's joke I posted on the site, saying I was going to take it down. It can still be found in the Articlez section for those interested.] - SoulRiser

From: Holly West

It's a shame that after all this work you had to go and let school break your spirit and convince that it was worthwhile. Oh well I guess brainwashing will catch up with everyone eventually. [Also in response to above-mentioned April Fool's joke] - SoulRiser

From: snuff102

Hey. I'm snuff102. I gave you some of the first cheat hints a few years back. I was just surfing the internet thinking how much school sucked and remember your site. It took me a while to find it then I saw that you are going to be taken the site down. Sucks. I had some good times on this site: reading your stories, getting hints and free essays. Thank you for making this awsome site!

From: unclassified

I love your site. your tales are so true. I stand for everything on your site . Its what i would say except 100000000000 times better... btw i tried the piss teacher off stategy and booyeh its gold.

From: A Teacher

You are right. Teachers are aware of these tips. I am one. The worst part is...you think that you are helping students when all you are doing is hurting them in the end. It is because of people like you that the world is full of idiots. [Posted from the Crib Notes section.] - SoulRiser

From: Clarence Harper

Yes! Your site is great! I hated school from day 1! I agree with you on so many points, although my defense was always "Look, we are both semi-intelligent bipeds engaged in a dialog. And for THIS you wish to PUNISH me?"
I actually work at a private school based heavily out of the idea of Unschooling. I'm gonna recommend this page to our director. I think he will really like it.

From: Atom (Kankes Gehirn)

First off, I would like to tell you that your site is one of the best anit-school sites I've ever been to, thus far. I like that your site is about opinions and thoughts rather than just how much school 'sucks'. I also found that it's good to know that there are other people out there who share some of the same views as I do. Although I Don't agree with you utopian views of Anarchy, I feel everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
By the way, great web design.

From: Tetraform

I love the Content and Design, It reminds me of the power of the internet, unrestricable power, the ability to post information out of the hands of permanant control.

YOU ARE A DAM GOOD DRAWER!!!! did you take some art class or something? or did u teach ur self?? and, how old r u ? [Took some class, taught myself before and after that. Turned 21 in 2003.] - SoulRiser

From: Jay

Your site is impressive. Im all for the protests and the motivation to be activists but some of this stuff like the cheats on homework stuff is unecessary. Dont get me wrong, i just thing that it would be better if u just kept with the motivation because some thses schools are horrible. Some of these schools treat you like dirt. But some students dont know how good they have it at their schools. My school is right in the middle. But if a teacher dared to oppose me, then i would have to beat them down on the spot, but that is just me. In all seriousness, the motivation to protest is the right way to go but the cheats, tips, and other stuff are not necessary.

From: Emie

This is one of my favorite sites. When I first found this site last year, I was frustrated and upset with the homework I was supposed to be doing. I randomly typed something into the search engine, like "school is bad" or something like that, and this site came up. Once I started to read this site, espescially the Opinions section, I was completely amazed. This site was the first thing I had ever seen that expressed my feelings for school completely. It seemed sometimes like what I was reading was what I'd been feeling for years, but couldn't put into words myself. Just knowing other people felt the way I did was a great feeling. Thanks for making such a great site, having a site like this really makes a difference to people! ^_^

From: John

One of my friends sent me to this site and its not bad, though i feel a little out of place because i dont go to public school, i home school but still there are a few things similer, but anyway its a cool site and ive grown to like it keep up the good work

From: swifty

i love your site... i havent slept tonight because i was reading everything on here. im glad i found this site... im going to have a lot of fun tomorrow at school :) i dont have plans on being a doctor or anything like that so i dont have much to lose by fighting the system. im considering not saying the pledge tomorrow in religion class (catholic school... sadly) well i pretty much just wanted to say thanks and congradulations on having the coolest site ive found so far!

From: Justin

This site is the shit and I Made a Magazine because of this site And I handed it out I Got a 4 day suspension because of it. Im in pressed with this site. Im in 8th grade

From: Estelle Sweet

I hated school...elementary all the way through a couple years of college. It seems that school is meant to enforce a class system from early on...get student used to the idea of supuriorty (honors society) and infuriority (remedial education). I was a "learning disabled" child and that is hard to live down. Other than giving me the basic skills of reading, writing and arithmatic all school has done for me has made me doubt myself.

From: Dyrwen

The art you've created was quite amazing, fine opinion expressed there. The site as a whole is very useful or at least enlightening.

From: Holly

When I saw this site Ithought "oh great, more angst." you know, duded in mullets and slipknot tshirts. But really, its much cooler and there is some awesome stuff... plus, now that i realize SoulRiser is a GIRL, its way cooler! GIRL POWER, no not flower power. I personally like school but it has its moments, teachers, and assignments that need a good *detention* and all... you haven't seen the last of me!

I love your site, it's nice to see how many other people there are that see schooling for what it is. A real eye opener for those that follow blindy on...

From: James

Despite what I said in a state of frustration, this is the best anti school site I have been to. Though I do not agree completely with most people here , I believe they have the right to there own opinions. Also this site is my main inspiration for my debut site: 'My Nest Of Salt.'

From: Glyphia

I'm a little confused as to why there is advice on getting good grades and cheating to get better grades. Grades don't matter. Never has a prospective employer asked me what grades I got in highschool. They ask what can you do and how well can you do it. I think it would be better for there to be a section in the survival xit on how to drop out instead.

From: Jason

Yo man, school is not a choice, for anyone that might have some sense that is. Neither is college if you want to make any kind of money. I might suggest a good growing up, and closing of the mouth might be the best of options at this point. I know school sux and all, but what are you going to do? Truth brought to truths, you really can't do anything. School isn't and never will be a student run facility. Fact is, teachers have information (some useful, some (alot) crap) that we have to learn, and display some knowladge of on an exam of some sort. College is the same way, being in college myself. The only thing protesting will do is show off your immaturity in the ablity to deal with someones crap, being the schools. Hey! Let's just walk away from difficult or non enjoyable issues rather than deal with them huh? Have fun failing life if that's your approach.

From: Jeremy W

to the hate mail recieved: yes, there are idiots in the world, and some of those idiots are teachers. teachers are human beings too and will be unjust, corrupt, and grade just terribly. that is what is happening in my case so I am forced to cheat. and it is not hurting me in the long run because I will NEVER be like "Oh $***!!!! I dont remember what X equals when Sin Theta is cosine 27. I wish I would not have cheated on that Math test in 11th grade." This site will get me farther in life than proofs will.

From: Rebelnerd

This is an AWESOME site!!!! I had had a shitty day at school, and felt like no one understood how I felt. In desperation, I searched for "anti-school" on Google and clicked on this. It was a revelation!
Thank you for making a site like this. The world needs it. :-)

From: Linda

hey, i was wondering if your poems by any chance are published...because i thought it might be cool if i could make a compilation of different poems about why school is useless and doesn't really teach you life's lessons. I would then perform this at speech tournaments and such, so with your okay and of course if these poems are published, i'd really like to use one of your poems in my collection. thanks!

From: carmen

i think u should put some games on this web site becausse alot of pple go on this site and look around during school if u gave them games to do they would have more stuff to do instead of being bored after reading all your information.

From: j

Sorry that you hate school so much. It shouldn't be that way. I'm a teacher who prides herself in making school enjoyable and getting to know students on a personal level. I love to joke around. I give very little homework; I never give busywork. Not all teachers and schools are bad. You seem very pessimistic and close-minded about the possiblity that there are good schools and teachers out there. They're not all good teachers, but they're good people. Everyone is different. They're entitled to do what they do, just like you're entitled to think what you think.

From: Gregory

Hello. I just wanted to say that I am extremly pleased that at least one person shares the same veiws as me. I am very happy with the way that you express your concern about the degrading of the educatinal establishment. you seem like you are highly intelligent and I am pleased that you use your gifts to do something worth while. it is a very good idea to not have any violence or pornogrophy and I will give you my full support. I live in south africa

From: Johnny

I really like what you have here. I've had quite a notorious history with my highschool, and I cannot believe you've been able to present such a spectacular website fulfilling above and beyond my expectations. Keep up the good work, and I hope you can expand above and beyond high school, and discuss all forms of schooling in the future.

From: Janelle

If you are going to encourage the kids to leave school, then at the same time you should be stimulating their minds and giving them ideas on how they can head down their career path.. they are kids.. all they can hear you say is 'ITS OK TO HATE SCHOOL' your killing motivation in every child that reads this.. I have big regrets, and still to this day wish i could go back and do it all over again.. at least try to put something useful on the site..

From: Jane

I love your site! I'm a mother of 6 kids, and they've never been to school. We homeschool, but we are very relaxed about it - we don't use textbooks, and the kids pursue their own interests. As a result, they are very bright and able and love to learn.
Thank you so much for creating this forum for other students - I wish I'd had such a resource when I was a miserable student.

From: John

It's a pity that most people writing these comments are idiots, or at least come across as idiots, when the philosophy of this website is so truthful and overlooked. Comments like 'IT IS FUCKING GAY WELL G2G PEACE' make this website look bad.

From: WTF?

If you follow the questions above you will be a trouble maker out of yourself. Thus you create trouble with problems that effect you and other students. I happened to read the first part of this site which has stated that anti-school students are not considered misfits, anti- social and definatly TROUBLE MAKERS. This site is complete bullshit, if you didnt go to school, what the fuck would you do with your life, you wouldnt have that much possibilities to become somewhat or something. It is all about attiude and it seems you are being brainwashed yourselves because this is the easierest way out. [Posted from the "how to waste time" page.] - SoulRiser

From: Private School Teacher

This Website Rocks! I've been running something like a private school in my home for a few years now. It has all the legalities of a private school, I am even registereed with the state, without the "School is God" mentality. I tell my kids all the time just do what you have to do to get by and don't take this whole school thing seriously.I constantly expose the ideas of the founders of compulsory education and my students are told there are alternatives. The Kid's parents are also told that this is a second best option and that homeschooling is best. Unfortunately, I have never had one parent choose homeschooling. It is sad that people do not have the confidence that they might know better how to guide their child's education better than some stiff with a piece of gov't paper that reads "certified authoritarian/dictator of (list subject(s) here).

I am currently working on a book to decry forced schooling and government involvement in education.

If anyone knew what I know about schools (even good, private schools), they'd shudder!

Thanks for the website! Keep it coming and tell all the kids out there that there are ways out of and around the system!

From: Mårtin

Stop complaining about uniform and stuff! It's called DISCIPLINE and it's there for your benefit. your essays are poorer quality than the shakespeare examples I look at from year 7 (1st year) bottom set! Stop protesting, all the people with real authority simply think: "how pathetic." In the UK things are a lot stricter, and we accept we cannot fight the system, and the system flows with us. You US kids are full of corrupt, arrogant and childish fantasies. wake up. you know our rugby team would love to play your football team in a match,(in england we don't wear pads, it's seen as cowardly if you do). Gay people are corrupted, i'm glad somebody in your stupid country had the sense to denounce them. In Europe, and seemingly being inroduced in the US, we have something called a hierarchy. It's purpose is to stop dumb, dreaming, anti-anything-thats-hard spastics like you having any influence over anything important. Not including refusing to go to class, cos inside, which dyu think the staff are thinking when you do that: 1."SWEET MARY JESUS OF NAZARETH, NOO!!" or 2."i don't care to be honest, it's your own education your screwing".
(probably 2.) really your entire country should shut up. hopefully the 3.5th reich will reawaken soon and destroy your puny country. and don't say your army will protect you and fight us of, they don't even know which way to point their weopons!

From: A. Richguy

This is so pointless, people don't sign you up for a nice job unless you have official grades+stuff. I wouldn't

From: freak-of-nature13

This site is Great,it has everything you need to know about what's wrong with our school systems. I believe that we're wasting our childhoods on something we don't need. They say if we want a good life we need to graduate school and go to college, ect. ect. Well having a good life doesn't mean getting a lot of money. That's what the school is basically saying, school=college=good job=MONEY!. I know a lot of people who don't have great jobs they're actually having the time of their lives. One thing we should acknowlegde is that for one thing all the "great jobs" take more time and your more likely to become a workaholic. Which you'll end up neglecting everything else, family, friends, ect. Personelly, I'm kind of afraid of the whole keeping in line thing and the 9-5.

From: Chloe

I love this site so much i spend hours on it. The best thing i ever done was find this site. I agree with everything you say on here about school. you are a genius. keep this site going forever please.

From: Happy Camper

Part of this site seems very well-informed, very promsing, and very well-founded. Other parts of this site seem narrow-minded, shallow, emo, blindly anti-xyorz, and downright stupid. I'm not happy with the schooling system. I believe our students are underestimated and are held back. And all the places that are advanced are ridiculously competative and put kids in a very tricky position. I'm pissed, I hope to do something. I'm glad this site exists. But a great deal of people here seem to just be way too anxious to bash everything. Open-minds take ideas from both sides, they're open to both bad and good. I plan to stay though. Hope the crowd improves a bit. You guys show promise.

From: Emma O'Brien

i love this website everytime i am in the computer room this is the first thing i come on it is awsome to know that i am not the only one out there that hates school, i knew that other people hated school but never knew that there was gonna be a website about it

From: Michelle Isabel

This is an amazing site!!! Its exactly what I needed to see! And I agree 100% with everything said/written on this site!
Honestly, I bow to all those connected to this site in any way!

From: Kaiya

When people ask why I hate school so much I've always found it really hard to explain. Now I tell people to look at this site...

I've got several years left of forced education. And I intend to spend those years doing everything in my power to do something about it.

From: mike cherry

wow you guys are a bunch of losers. get over it we have to go to school its a part of life. if you dont like it then drop out but be prepared to suck at life and never succed or make any money... however there is some exceptions to that... BILL GATES for an example but lets face that is not going to happen to most of us so suck it up and go to school and get it over with without winning because it doesnt make it go by any faster!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From: Kaiya

Okay, I know I've posted here already, but I'd just like to add to the mike cherry bastard, that at least we can fucking spell the word "whining". So your shit-ass education couldn't teach you how to fucking spell obviously... You're just proof of the ineffectiveness of the current education system.

School may be a part of life, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't fight to make it better...

From: Eric

OMG, you put into words what I feel. I am sorta an advanced student, and I hate it when teachers hand out homework. I want to learn stuff that will help me with my career choice, a web desginer, not about biology and cells. Thanks! I am going to circulate this around my school and organize a walk out. Thanks for everything, and I hope it works!

From: Nicki

Man, I have to say that I'm pretty sad I didn't find this website two years ago. I'm a junior in high school right now, and I thought that my strong dislike for school was just because I was lazy and inconsiderate of my parents. People are always telling me how an education is not a right, and how people would give anything to get the chance to go to a school like I do, and it just makes me feel like a shitty person indeed. I thought something was definitley wrong with me because I had to fight myself to get up in the morning and get ready for a horrible eight hours of sitting in four classes that really didn't mean jack to me. With that being said, I am a good student regardless of my surperior hate for the school I attend. I do get good grades, and if my school allowed it, I would be able to graduate a semester early. I don't get in trouble when I'm there, and I do pay attention, but I'm always off in another work thirty minutes into class.

I think it's just public schools that do this to students. The teachers and other staff members are just deadset on getting their salaries every month, that they teach what needs to be taught, and don't really care if the students are honestly, really learning the material as long as they can pass the tests. It sucks that their aren't teachers anymore who are really into making sure everyone truly understands the lessons, especially when it comes to math. Lord knows math is definitley a killer for most students, including myself.

I guess I wanted to really say that I'm relieved that I found this site. Although I probably have to bare going to school for the rest of my junior year, it's just nice to know that there's some place I can go to and find others that relate to me.

From: Olly

Love, love, luhvvvvvv it. Seriously, thank god for this website I would not know what I would do without it. I recommended it to my friends, heheh maybe we should arrange a walk out too. ^^

From: Dave Blevins

We have blocked this subversive, worthless site at my school. How dare you question the educational system that I and other worthy people have given our lives to?

From: labled "Anarchist"

God damn, i cant believe i took so long to find a website like this, this is EXACTLY what i have been thinking for years, i thought i was the only one, thank you people for putting this all together, i never thought id be able to find someone on the same mental channel as i am.

From: xcriteria

I didn't find school survival until after I'd dropped out of college a few times. Even then just seeing it made a substantial difference in my life, as a sort of confirmation of what I'd felt for a long, long time. And when I returned to college after that, the forums were the only place I could write about my experiences and ideas and be understood. If I had known about school survival in junior high or high school, it would have been enormously helpful. (I dropped out of high school before the site was founded, though. :))

From: Heidi

You know what's even more sad then school. Is that not only us teens are effected, but even the youngins. My sister who's in grade 3 had an assignment where she had to draw the school. You know what I saw when she showed me her pictures? Bars on the windows with kids clinging to them wanting out. It was just like jail to them. And all this from a mind of an 8 year old. Scary or what?

From: EBW

OH MY GOD!! THANK YOU!! Finally, people are starting to recognize this problem! My school is horrible. Almost everyone there is either doing drugs, my friend is pregnant for the second time! There are over 2,ooo students so yeah, it's hell. I HATE SCHOOL!

From: Graham Moore

Hey
Great site my friend, still havent seen all of it yet but im really impressed. Im a 42 year old dad of 4 from LIverpool England, who is seriously thinking about unschooling all 4 children. This site has taken me one step closer.
By the way Im a founding director of humanutopia, an organisation which attempts to transform school cultures. check the site out at www.humanutopia.com - have a look at the blogs in particular.
Once youve hada look thru maybe we could hook up and try something collaborative.
Awesome site tho dude.

From: Ted Lester

Thank goodness for this website. When I went to school there was no Internet, which is a shame because I detested every minute of my being there and could have done with your company. I have nothing against education, but the vile excuse for education that goes on in British state high schools leaves much to be desired.

From: rocky

a fantastic site covering a very important subject that far to many people fail to see as a problem. i went through mine in jr. high for 2 years before i changed schools and however that has been quite some time ago, it still rings in my head with bitterness and the wall around me i had to build then has stayed with me and held my life back.

From: Dr. D

Right on SoulRiser! Okay, so I'm not 12 or 15 but I used to be and I suffered through the years of torture they called and still call school. I learned a lot: how to hate learning, how to amuse myself for 6.5 hours a day drawing in my notebook because I was bored out of my mind, how to hide from the bullies....When in high school someone suggested I go to college I told them I didn't want another 4 years of that hell. I dropped out, went to an excellerated high school, doing my last 2 years in one year. Later I went to college when a friend insisted I was smart enough. I told her I would prove to her I wasn't smart at all. I took one class, got an A, discovered what REAL learning was all about and I was hooked. Now, if only I could have done that without wasting 12 years of my life in public school! I can tell you where I learned to read and write; I read constantly. I loved to read and still do. Everything I know I learned from books not from teachers. Once I'd mastered Dick, Jane, and Sally I didn't need public school anymore.

Now I have my Ph.D. and I watched my own daughter suffer for the 6 months she spent in 1st grade before I pulled her out and put her in an alternative private school where she did well until she graduated. Now we are short on alternatives. She is very creative and dyslexic so it is no surprise that public school is toxic for her. I can't bear the thought of sending her back there to be tortured. I may be an old hag but I totally empathize with all of you who are suffering now in public school. It seems so much worse that the years I spent there. If you can get out, save yourself. If you can't, know that there are other people who survived and who support you. Question authority! Exercise your rights wherever you have them. Demand change. When you need help ask those of us who suffered before you and who still remember. Hmmmm, shouldn't we be entitled to some kind of survivors' compensation or something? Sounds like the makings of some kind of lawsuit to me. Become a lawyer and take on the system!

From: generalKick@$$

School is shit, fuck it all, don't they know how many kids have killed themselves because of it and all the pressure it put on them. Kids with beautiful minds, who could've made a difference in the world without goddamn school. Damn it, shit, I know what I'm saying, to everyone and everything that stands for school, FUCK YOU, FUCK YOU!!!

From: sick of school

I thought i was one of 10 students at school who hated it.This site is awesome. Now i know there are more who go through this and have to suffer for 12 years and then try to be proud of what they done at young age for the rest of their lives and try to remmember all the crap school stuffed to our heads.

Completely agree. I got 1 year left in high-school, my marks suck, Ignoring homeworks, and im like a ghost at the classes. Im so depressed and troubled about my future, that i have even considered sucide.
But this site cheers me up :)

This site has changed my life, and has truly shown me that I am not insane and my peers are not insane. It has shown me that I am not alone in my disliking of school and the issues of schooling are real and logical, not excuses for laziness. However, it is very easy to place judgment and this site surely does prove its point but I see no solutions. If we took all the energy that was being used to create these ideas ragarding the educational system (which of course were necessary to come to this crossroad)and channelled them toward the solution of the school system, I truly believe something magnificent would happen. This site has truly proved its point. Now it is time for a solution to be found or an alternative; whatever it may be called and then to inspire others to implement it.

i hate my school because it's only like a game on who knows most and who memorizes the fastest and things like that. i thought i'm a really insane person for hating school but your site made me realize that some people feel the same way that i do. thanks!

This site is excellent. I first found it at school, I searched "school sucks" or something in Google, and found this. Everything here is awesome. It's helped me and people I know so much. I've even started my own site that's goal is to make school more fun. If you want to go there, it's ocyras.tk
