Why Does School Make Me So Tired?

If you're feeling drained, exhausted, and utterly worn out by the mere thought of school, I want you to know something: you're not alone. School can feel like an endless maze of monotony and pressure, sucking the life out of you one class at a time.

John Taylor Gatto once boldly declared that the true purpose of schools is not to educate, but to indoctrinate. Yeah, let that sink in for a moment. It's a harsh reality to swallow, but when you think about it, the bells, the rules, the grades – they all serve to mold us into compliant cogs in the societal machine.

And then there's Peter Gray, who sings the praises of play in learning. He argues that children are wired to learn through exploration, curiosity, and yes, play. But what does school do? It stifles that natural inclination, cramming our heads full of facts while neglecting our need for creativity and self-discovery.

So, why does school make us so tired? Because it goes against our very nature. It's like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole – exhausting and utterly futile.

Enter Laurie A. Couture, who champions the role of parents in nurturing their children's passions and interests. Instead of pushing them into the soul-crushing grind of traditional schooling, she encourages parents to support self-directed learning and embrace their child's individuality. Imagine that – a world where education is tailored to the individual, not the masses.

There are alternatives! Self-directed education, online schooling, homeschooling – these are just a few paths you can explore to reclaim your sanity and reignite your love for learning. Because guess what? Education doesn't have to be synonymous with misery.

And hey, if you're feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, or just downright exhausted, remember this: your feelings are valid. You're not broken, lazy, or defective. You're simply a square peg in a world full of round holes, and that's okay.

You're not alone in this struggle. Together, we can navigate the murky waters of the education system and carve out a path that honors your unique gifts and passions. Stay strong, stay curious, and never stop questioning the status quo. After all, it's the misfits and rebels who change the world.

Where to next? Pick one!
