Counter-Propaganda

by Kirby

I'm sure most students have been bored at school or dreaded the thought of going, but most have not seriously considered whether or not it is necessary. This makes it hard for us to explain to them the uselessness of school because people have mental inertia for things they don't question. It takes a greater force to get someone thinking than it does to keep them thinking. You have to get them to ask the first "why" and the rest will follow, so long as they keep questioning and getting good answers. If they get the answer, "You go to school because you must learn.", but don't ask, "Can't I learn outside of school?", they won't get to the truth.

This is why we need to get information out. The reason why people don't do shit about climate change is because they don't know what it is. Oh sure, they are told it will screw us over. But why? Most people can't answer that question. Truth is the greatest act of rebellion.

Propaganda

Propaganda does not mean brainwashing or lies, propaganda is media that is used to spread a message, ideal, or point of view.

Counterpropaganda

Counterpropaganda is propaganda against other propaganda. In our case, this means using anti-school propaganda to counteract propaganda spread by the school.

Subverting Propaganda

Subverting school media is a good tactic. It can do three things, 1) spread a message; 2) cause chaos; and 3) boost morale.

To spread the message, first find a suitable target. The target can be a poster, a sign, a handout, or any form of media used by the school. Examine the target and think of a change that can be used as anti-school propaganda. An easy change would be changing the letters of a sign. For handouts you could make up your own versions and use the schools format to make it look legitimate.

When school personnel see or are notified of the subversion, they will change it back and look for the culprit. If you are not found you can continue your attack. After a while of messing with the school the school personnel will start to feel pressure and annoyance.

When a student who hates school sees the message they will feel comradeship. Just seeing a message aligned with your own views is empowering, it says "you are not alone." You can see from this forum that this is true. Seeing an anti-school message is like water in the desert.

Where to next? Pick one!
