Documentary about school shootings

On September 13th, 2006, Kimveer Gill walked onto the bustling campus of Dawson College in Montreal and began to fire at random. Hours later, he was dead - but the story was just beginning. In the days to follow, the amateur computer game "Super Columbine Massacre RPG!" would be named by the mainstream media as a heavy influence for Gill's rampage. Shooting survivor Joel Kornek promptly emailed the game's creator, Danny Ledonne - scolding him for ever creating the game.

In the months that followed, Ledonne and Kornek corresponded often and with great candor about the purpose of the game, the reasons as to why school shootings happen, and what they could each do to prevent them. Kornek concluded that it was the press that created the connection between Gill and the controversial game and that, in fact, furthered the many misleading myths about the nature of such horrific events.

One year later, Kornek asked Ledonne to feature one section of Ledonne's forthcoming documentary on Kornek's website. The documentary "Playing Columbine" and the website "Kill Thinking," both creations of two young men with an interest in better understanding the complex and urgent topic of school shootings, have now fused together on the anniversary of the tragic event that first crossed their paths a year earlier. Together, they aim to continue challenging the public to think more carefully about why such events occur and challenging the press to reconsider how they cover such events.
