Homeland Security, Sesame Style
When it comes to securing the homeland, who better to help you sleep at night than various characters from the popular children's show, "Sesame Street" ... ?!?
Seriously.
In a move that will make Bush administration detractors bring back those duct tape jokes again, the Department of Homeland Security has partnered up with the famous children's show.
"We all want our children to feel safe in this world," said Meryl Chertoff, wife of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, at a ceremony held at the John Tyler Elementary School to announce the partnership. "And who better to do that than our Sesame Street friends, Grover and Rosita!"
"I always knew that [Mr. and Mrs. Chertoff] would be big muppet Muppett supporters!" said Sesame Workshop CEO Gary Knell.
As you can imagine, the partnership is aimed at children, and seeks to encourage family preparedness plans in the case of emergencies.
"Family preparedness is the cornerstone of personal and community readiness," said Secretary Chertoff in a statement (he was scheduled to attend the event, but has been busy handling the aftermath of Hurricane Ike in Texas). "And we could not be more pleased to team up with Sesame Workshop."
But perhaps Grover puts it best in his introductory remarks, published in a pamphlet titled, "Let's Get Ready!"
"I, your furry, blue friend Grover, have a story to share. Are you wondering what it is about? I will give you an itty-bitty hint: It is about getting ready for emergencies! Oh boy, that was a big hint. Do you want to get ready, too? You do? Oh, I am so pleased. Then read this story with me, and let us get ready together!"

Start brainwashing them as toddlers, soften the mind so it can be controlled for decades.
But the last paragraph is one of the funniest things I ever heard.
lolwut?
... They must be on crack.
I FINK DIS IS A GUD IDEER BEKAUS I LIEK SESEMEE STUREET!!!!! MNKRTKRKIIEKTJHDJNFRJHJHFRJRFJRFN WOT DOS DIS ARTEECLE MEEN???!!
Sesame street is A classic and will please young children to enter this society and feel safe! I am A doctor and many children don't feel safe and many children come to me scared of school haters who threaten them... I'm thinking you might be the people! So children should feel safe in A child friendly environment with their best cartoon characters who encourage them to keep safe just incase such emergencies do happen especially to young children. We must raise these children to be safe and prepared for things that may happen in the future or if the child isn't put in A safe enough environment it might happen now! Children have to protected from the dangers that might just lay around the corner!
And if you do hate school and are reading this then don't worry come to St. Harry hospital and I will put you on medication as soon as possible. These medications help Depressed, Troubled or Suicidal young people.
I have medications such as:
Melatonin. (Helps with sleeping if you are stressed.)
Ritalin. (Calms you down if you have A chemical imbalance with disorders such as Attention Defict Hyperactivity Disorder which is ADHD.)
And I have much more for troubled people just like you so you are able to be released into society!
I think the below is sarcasm, but just in case it isn't:
1. You're saying children should be prepared, but on the other hand you advocate a sheltered environment.
2."I am A doctor and many children don't feel safe and many children come to me scared of school haters who threaten them... I'm thinking you might be the people!" Uh, no, I don't threaten people.
3."And if you do hate school and are reading this then don't worry come to St. Harry hospital and I will put you on medication as soon as possible."
I am proud of being a school hater, and I also believe that medication should only be used in necessary cases. I'm quite satisfied with my mental health, thank you very much.
4. "And I have much more for troubled people just like you so you are able to be released into society!"
I'm not troubled, and I am a part of society to the extent I wish to be.
But yeah, I seriously doubt doc is being serious (for example, he left no contact and I'm sure there's plenty of St. Harry hospitals). I think it's some attempt at sarcasm, but quite weak in my personal opinion (don't want to hurt anyone's feelings though, it's just my point of view).
Wait, you're not talking about "http://home.comcast.net/~atrios/terror-all.jpg"? aw....
