'"I trust my kids, but you only can trust them so far. They're kids, young adults, they're going to make (a) mistake," she told ABC news.'
You're saying you don't trust them. If you had sniff dogs go through your husband's possessions, that would be proof you don't trust him-and something socially unacceptable to do. But to your kids, it's considered okay?
Furthermore, my stance on soft drugs (like the marijuana mentioned) is that they're okay as long as the person is using the drugs, not when the drugs are using the person.
Continued hard drugs usage is usually a sign of an emotionally unsupportive or even abusive home. If you treated your children with respect, respected their choices (like wanting to drop out), and helped them when they needed, chances are they wouldn't be addicted to hard drugs in the first place, or would at least tell you about it themselves.
No, this isn't any different from parents looking through their children's stuff-reading diaries and searching backpacks. But I don't condone that either. Respect others' privacy, please.
