Beaumont man denies school clique was 'sex ring'

BEAUMONT - A founder of a high school clique accused of providing senior football players with favors from younger girls denied such actions ever occurred, and officials at the school also said they'd never heard it was a "sex ring."

Thurston "Trey" House, 23, one of the founding members of the Kutchie Kissing Klique, said it was merely a group of friends hanging out together.

"People are blowing it way out of proportion, making it seem way worse than it was," he said. "They're saying we preyed on the freshman girls - it wasn't like that."

Last week Byron Aaron Bell, a former member of the group Kutchie Kissing Klique, was indicted in a 2001 sexual assault. Police said several former Ozen High School students gave statements about the group's sexual activity.

But Beaumont school Superintendent Carrol Thomas said he spoke with the current Ozen principal and the one who was there in 2001, and neither had knowledge of organized sexual misconduct.

"They did know that there was a club that was out there called 3K, but they didn't know 3K was some type of (alleged) sex ring or anything like this," he said.

Bell, 25, a former football player and member of the group, was charged last week with sexual assault of a 14-year-old freshman. A former assistant coach at the school, Tommie "Bo" Granger, is accused of indecency with a child.

If convicted, both accused men face up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

House declined to comment on the guilt or innocence of Bell, saying he just wanted to clarify reports of the club's activities.
