Cedar Ridge Academy Nurse Charged With Sex Abuse
A man who worked as a nurse at a boarding school for troubled teens has been charged with having sexual contact with two of the school’s teenage residents.
Geary David Oakes, 57, of Cedarview, Duchesne County, is charged in 8th District Court with two counts of forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony, and two counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony.
A nurse at Cedar Ridge Academy, Oakes engaged in sex acts with two 15-year-old students from the school, the charges state.
One of the teens told deputies that Oakes gave him pain medication, according to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, and that he “provides pain and sleeping medications for the kids at Cedar Ridge and tells them to keep it a secret.” Oakes corroborated some of the information provided by the teens, but denied that he had supplied anyone with medication that was not prescribed, authorities said.
Cedar Ridge Academy, located north of Roosevelt, is billed as a therapeutic boarding school. Investigators believe Oakes’ alleged activities with the teens occurred at the school and at his home during November.
Oakes was fired once criminal charges were filed, said Cedar Ridge co-owner and program director Rob Nielson. He said Oakes had worked at the school for about 10 years.
“This was just a shock to all of us,” Nielsen said. “Our first concern is our students and we have talked with them to determine the extent of the misconduct.”
He said the school has alerted students’ parents about the situation, and has received “a lot of support.”
The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the case. Oakes remains in the Duchesne County Jail in lieu of $60,000 bail.

This school is to help kids, look at this, Rob Neilson the owner of this theraputic school has no idea what the hell he is doing. this school is to help kids with past hard tinmes, and all it does is create even worse times for you child. I would get your kid out of this school as soon a possible. Dont put your child in harms way, if you enroll your child in this school you will be doing more harm than good. it just prooves my point, GET THEM OUT NOW DONT WASTE ANY MORE MONEY
What the hell!!!!!Isnt this a theraputic school????This school is to help kids with huge problems that they have had in the past. Also it is pretty much a lock down facilty and you have no communcation with the out side world, so if some one is sexually abusing you who are you to turn to??? Very Frightning, i would never out my child in this school becuase she would come out evern more fucked up then she was. In this case he liked penis in his mouth, for exchange some pain killers. Thats fucked up, whoever owns this school has no idea what the fuck he is doing, he is soppose to be helping these kids instead he is putting them in charge of a guy that will rape your kid.
I went to this school, im a lucky one my mom pulled my out, this is proboly the shittest school, u guys are right rob the owner and his family dont know wat there doing i was verbally abused by staff, and all we did was labor. after school the weekend, i just cried early because of all the pain they gave me in my 5 months there, i thought i was never going to leave but my mom relized it was a shit place, i have i scare on my hand from shoveling rocks and gravel all day lon in huge weel barrels, and there is so much more bullshit in that place,,, fuck cra free tha kids,, bring them to frisco and it will be all good
Wow, I know anyone can say anything they want on the internet but this is ridiculous! My son is at Cedar Ridge and we talk to him on the phone every week and see him about once every 6 weeks and have NEVER heard of anyone doing anything unprofessional to students there with the one exception of that sex abuse incident a few years ago. Since then students are NEVER alone with a staff member. There is always a 3rd person with them, a safety precaution that may not be practiced at every school. I am sorry your experience didn't work out. It sounds like you are still trying to manipulate people. My son feels MUCH BETTER than he did when he arrived and we are excited for him to finish his program and come home.
You see your child once every 6 weeks!! And talk to him every week wow don't go out of your way to be a real parent much there do you! It's people like you who back places like this up while at the same time filling them! Try spending time with your kids instead of on urself, give the kid some damn attention instead of shipping him off!
lol, you talk to your kid every week on the phone. and that is when he is with a counselor. you get punished if you don't agree with what they are doing to you. so you either say everything is fine. or tell the truth and you will be punished.
