Online High School Basics and Myths
Online high schools are becoming increasingly popular as an Alternative to traditional high schools. While they're not without their own distinctive set of issues, online high schools, especially those that allow for getting a high school diploma online, will only grow in number and popularity.
While there are a number of Different motives for why a student may elect to attend an online high school, the most important one is the fact that it gets you from those public schools (in most cases; remember you will find a few free online high schools that are public charter schools).
Online high schools require students to be more moved. Remember that in conventional schools you have educators pushing you forward. While many online high schools have educators, the dynamic differs. It will be significantly more on you to be prosperous.
Below are the most common myths
- I must decide on a school that is within my own state. Unless there's a financial incentive, as with complimentary public charter schools, there is usually no reason to choose one in your house state.
- I must choose the most expensive school. Quality doesn't necessarily equate with higher price. There are a few quite good schools which are cheap and there are a few quite good schools which are costly. Cost has to do with quality.
- I must choose the least expensive school. Occasionally there are legitimate reasons for choosing the least expensive school. While that may be a sensible option, you also need to consider quality of the school.
- Online high schools are all the same. Online high schools are somewhat similar as traditional high schools. In other words, they are sometimes very different.
- Online high schools are only for homeschooled students. While there's a segment of the internet high school population that is homeschooled, this really is actually the smaller segment. There are a lot more students who are not homeschooled, but that are studying online.
- I won't have a teacher. It's all independent research. When there are the apps which are independent research, there are many where you're supplied with a lot of support from a state-certified teacher.
- I will not have access to college counseling. This may or may not be true. Some do offer college counseling and you should check with the school if that's a priority for you.
- Students who go to online high schools can't get into school. Not true at all. Any respectable online high school has compiled a listing of those schools that have admitted their pupils.
- Online high schools aren't as good as conventional high schools. In many cases, students find online high schools a better experience and that it doesn't suffer from quality since it's online.
While online high schools aren't appropriate for everyone, they can be an excellent alternative to conventional high schools.
