School Makes Me Angry

Hey there, fellow survivors. Today, I want to scream from the mountaintops, not because I enjoy the echo, but because our feelings are valid, and it's time to acknowledge the anger that boils within us. School, the supposed bastion of education, often feels like a cage where our individuality is crushed, and frustration simmers beneath the surface. But you are not alone, and there's nothing wrong with you!

John Taylor Gatto, a renegade teacher, once peeled back the layers of the educational onion to reveal its true purpose. Spoiler alert: it's not about nurturing our minds and fostering creativity. No, according to Gatto, schools are designed to produce obedient workers, not free thinkers. They're assembly lines churning out conformity, and if you find that infuriating, well, you should.

Now, let's talk about what Laurie A. Couture preaches. Instead of stifling our dreams with the "you must do this" mentality, parents should be nurturing our passions, fueling our curiosity, and standing by us when we choose alternative paths.

And speaking of alternative paths, enter Peter Gray, the advocate for the lost art of play in learning. Gray doesn't mince words; he argues that play is the gateway to education. But what does the traditional school system do? It stifles our creativity, puts a leash on our imagination, and calls it "discipline." No wonder we're angry!

But hey, let's not drown in our rage. Instead, let's swim toward the lifeboat of alternatives. Self-directed education invites us to take control of our learning. It's time to trust ourselves, pursue our passions, and navigate our own academic journey. More about alternatives here.

So, my fellow comrades in the battle against the chains of compulsory schooling, our anger is valid. We're not alone, and there's nothing wrong with us. Let's channel that anger into understanding the true purpose of schools, advocating for supportive parenting, embracing the importance of play, and exploring alternative educational paths. It's time to rise from the ashes of frustration and forge our own path to knowledge and fulfillment.

Where to next? Pick one!
