This is a support site for students who can't stand being forced to go to school. We are not telling you to drop out, rebel or do anything in particular. What you do is your decision and yours alone, we can just provide support and information for whatever choice you may make. What works for one person won't necessarily work for everyone. The point is: the choice is yours to make. And if, for whatever reason, other people refuse to let you make that choice, you will always find someone here willing to listen to you.
14 Good Reasons why School Sucks & Things I Hate About School:
- School sucks because if you don't like it, most people automatically think there's something serious wrong with you.
- School ruins learning. In school, learning is all about memorizing things, answering questions, and writing loads of crap on topics you don't care about.
- Because you're forced to go there, and if you want to try some other alternative, you need to get parental permission first. School is essentially pointless forced labour without pay.
- It sucks because people expect you to treat school as the most important thing in your life. Nevermind what you'd rather be doing.
- School sucks because once you're done, you'll probably forget 90% of what you "learned" there and burn all your books anyway. All you'll be left with is a diploma stating that you survived 12 years of hell. And very few people (besides your parents) will even want to look at it.
- Because talking to your friends is a crime at school.
- It sucks because even if you're bored out of your mind, you'll still get all the blame for not participating in class.
- School suppresses independent thought - if you disagree with the teacher, you're in trouble. If you dare to think of a new way to do something, it's automatically wrong.
- School sucks because if you do what they say and do all your work, you don't get time off - they'll just expect even more from you in future. And someone who cheats on their work and tests can just as easily do better than you.
- School sucks because life is short, and you'll never get that time back.
- School makes everyone around you panic over the smallest little things that none of them (or anyone else) will care about a few years down the line.
- Even when you go home, school invades your life by giving you homework as well.
- It sucks because even though school has all these problems, if you mention any of them, you'll be the one they blame, no matter how right you may actually be.
- School sucks because every now and then it does something useful for someone, and then everyone goes all "Look! That's proof that school is good for you!"... It's like getting free ice cream in hell - it just doesn't quite make up for all the other stuff.

yeah my graphic arts teacher SUCKS BALLS she dosent know any of the stuff me and my friend literally had our hand raised for a half and hour and she saw us and walked right past us and the projects i do she sucks at grading them oooooh i didnt put in a drop shadow ZERO FOR YOU!! the only reason she skips me and my friend are cause of the questions that she can't answer but they are simple questions which just prove how shitty the teacher is

There is an alarmingly high amount of people who didn't read the purpose of this cool website. They post that school is good for you, yet have worse spelling and grammar than most of the school haters. Sadly, we cannot rise up for freedom, because we youths have little freedom.
What we need, if we want kids today (myself included) to enjoy school, is an actual school reform. I remember 2 years ago, when I was in 6th grade, my social studies class had to make a mock country. We had to include many stats on the country, like how the education system worked. The system I made was where for 1st through 4th grade students were educated in basic studies, and then from 5th grade to 8th grade students had greater control of their schedule and got to branch out more and discover their separate intrests. Finally, in 9 to 12th grade, which was non-mandatory, the students had complete control of schedules, and were trained in the talents they found in the middle years. Then they go to college and get degrees in their separate talents.
Now that was quite fictional, but it seems immensely better than our current style, which is simply horrid. There is a chance that another protest will occur, but what good would that do. The government would only listen to something drastic, such as a revolution; however, the US is ill-equipped to survive a war right now, so a revolution is out of the question. These current times remind me of the Civil Rights Movement, only its the Youth Right Movement. Its true, that history repeats itself, and I have a feeling that the government will repeat its mistakes, until someone decides to launch a coup, which wouldn't be very useful anyways.

The quarel I had with school is that it wastes time on useless shit while almost neglecting the important ones. Maths force people to think in a structured and logical way and this is something we, as a society, lack as evidenced by the commenters here. Language classes teach you not to communicate like a dribbling retard, something we also lack as again evidenced by the commenters here. So instead of idealizing a riot that would allow you to remain a dimwit, start idealizing a change in schooling that would make it actually educate you.

I'm a programmer now, and I have a *very* nice pay. It allows me to lead a cool life and do what I always wanted - travel. I've learned a couple of foreign languages so I can understand the people I meet. But, guess where I learnt to program. School. Sure, I had to do a lot on my own too. Guess where the language learning started. School again. And again I had a lot to do on my own. Now, all this time, I did't think "how cool would it be if I didn't have to go to school", I thought "how cool would it be if school taught me well enough that I don't need this much work on my own".

I agree that school sucks and is tedious, in school, I will actually pray that I leave early. School ruins learning, degrading it to memorizing small pieces of crap. School teaches you your rights, and violates them, makes real humans collapse of boredom, and is just plain hell in general. The worst is either the social castes, or the overreactions. If school does something good, and you said it couldn't, than you are shamed. And just like the list, it doesn't make up for all the crap that's happened. The social classes are terrible. Hi. I live in a stupid shitty hillbilly town in the country which is hell for a modern day individual person like me BUT... what makes it worse is that I have to go to a horrible school where Individuality is looked down upon. At my school there is a uniform policy and a shoe policy and a hair policy and a jewellery policy and a makeup policy and god only knows how many more policies there are. They have forbidden students from wearing jeans or long pants and they are forced to wear shorts that just down right look disgusting. Me and all my friends were forced to dye our hair back to a natural colour (because apparently black isn’t a natural colour RACISTS!) and my friends were forced to remove all their jewellery. My best friend is always getting in trouble for wearing makeup but she has to because she has skin pigmentation. When we went to confront the principal about this he said "Because if people on the street want to look at you they will see what a nice school we are, we all have to look the same so no one feels uncomfortable"........ WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP! WE ARE HERE TO LEARN NOT TO BE PARADED AROUND FOR PEOPLE ON THE STREET! AND THESE UNIFORMS ARE UNCOMFORTABLE! Believe it or not but I haven’t even got to the worst part yet. The one who enforces all these rules is the demon of a deputy principle (who I will call Miss X) she would regularly call the students from their home group to do a PANTS INSPECTION? And if you weren’t wearing shorts you would get yelled at. On one of her crazy rampages she stormed through the school and went berserk at everyone who was wearing jeans, my friend Sam was unfortunate enough to get caught and I seriously thought miss X was going to turn into the exorcist. Poor Sam looked like he was about to cry then he was called to her office for another lecture. One time I went to hand in a form at the office and it just happened to be the same colour as the subject selection form. When she seen it she said "I TOLD YOU YOUR TOO LATE YOU WONT GET INTO ANY OF YOUR CLASSES NOW". and I said "But that wasn't..." and then she was like "GET ME THE FORM NOW" and I was stunned so I turned to the office lady, who was also shocked, and asked her for my subject form which obviously she couldn’t give me. Then she went “I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS .... And stormed off like a crazy nut. Later on in the day the cowardly miss X sent another student to apologise for her. I hate this place so fucking much I want to burn it to the ground and shoot that huge blimp of a deputy principal right in the eye. So how was that, and would you believe that a lot of students have it a lot worse.
BTW I still wear my skinny jeans and I still dye my hair and I’m not taking any shit from the fat cunt miss x ever again.
As much as I would like to disagree, the majority of the individuals that have posted here are moderately correct in their views. As a student who is about to graduate high school and enter into University for Nursing, I often wonder what exactly I need all this school for. Indeed, I am well aware of the theory which will be applied in the job, but I often wonder how hard it REALLY is to learn to sponge bath someone, wipe up poop, and lift and roll people in beds. A nurse is not a doctor, after all, and even in surgery rooms, we're not going to be required to do much more then prepare patients and hand tools to a doctor.
Yet, we need a Full University Education. It's simply not required.
This is, more or less, because education has become a scam, and a business, hidden behind the means of acquiring knowledge and teaching. The only true thing I'll retain throughout my life in school is that discrimination is bad, and being prejudice to black, disabled, and gay people is BAD. That's totally common sense as it is, and shouldn't be a mandatory theme in a minimum of 12 years of education; especially when you can be trained for most jobs in about two years, IF THAT.
In London Ontario, while on tour with a popular Social Justice Group (D+P) Group, I actually talked to a professor who was leaving a university we were staying at. He had made a decision to quit teaching, knowing with near certainty that he would probably lose money and become homeless, because he was convinced of the scam education had become. I distinctly remember him illustarting how education had a hand in everything and, thus, required you to pay money for schooling in everything. He said this was wrong, as it served the purpose to divide society into classes of people who could and could not be educated.
While I have no intention to quit school (and you shouldn't if you're reading this!), and while I acknwoledge that a USEFUL DEGREE (not all degrees can be used!) is your absolute best chance at getting a job that isn't back-breaking, I do agree that the education system has become almost shameful, and that something certainly has to be done.
If I may make a suggestion, I would advise to start online petitions in your different countries of origin, and use this site as an advertising base, as it would be the quickest and easiest way to make this cause official.
Yeah I totally agree! Number 10 is the worst one! Yeah too right - you will NEVER get that time back. Also I hate the fact that for school you have to get up early, go there for hours doing the same thing all the time, in the same classroom, with the SAME teacher (whether you hate them or not) and it seriously pisses me off. I hate the fact that you have to do all those waste-of-time subjects (which for me is Drama, RE, PE - which is a complete waste! But in my school I have to take RE which is utterly ridiculous!) But yeah seriously I really could go on and on about all the stupid 'forced upon you' things at school which suck so bad! And that you feel pressured in stupid exams you have to do - even if that didn't end up affecting you in the future. Seriously, we should get more time to do things WE want to do.

The Reason I look back and laugh at my mom when shes on my phone is that when i was in school none of the things i learned there had any role what soever in life, i have a good paying job in Canada and have 200,000 dollars each year and many things i do at my job does not need, social studies, math(they use other more simpler formulas than in school),science(only basic science is needed), English,reading skills(ALL the fancy, PLOT,CLIMAX, OR EVEN ALL THOSE WORKSHEETS TO DO ON "the story has a very emotional plot,why?") I Got C- in school and only a 3.4 GPA And i have a very good job, school does not need any thing from school at all.

I am 11 years of age, I get good marks (especially in english). I agree...we do need school for a little part in our lives but we do not need to waste 12 years doing utter shit that either 1. you will forget OR 2. you won't even need it in life.
It would be better if you had school from when you are 6-13. And the rest of your teens, could be freedom. But I also have to say that school wastes time, gives you stress and drives people to death. The Victorians were smart people..they let you leave school at age 11.

I severely dislike school. My school district has all but obliterated recess, and they are phasing out gym in favour of more math and language arts. And the government officialy peoples wonder why there is an obesity epidemic. They are also choking out the arts, in favour of more crap than we need in our short lives. No more vibrantly coloured pix, no more diverse collages, no more random sounds from music. And they wonder why there is a creativity crisis. We are being forced to swallow stuff we may hate with the passion of 1200 flaming angles (Misspelled for fun) Many people want jobs, without all the risks of a job. Logically impossible; you need to take risks for anything in this world. This is one of the reasons the USA is failing in the world, and instead of telling them to try anything, they say: "They are failing in the market, so we need to give 'em more school. All in favour?" We could band together, as a sort of Political Party. Hah, having 15 year olds in Congress would be awesome. It might never happen, with all the agist laws that Congress spits out, but we need to act. Its risky, a bunch of 11 to 17 year-olds (Apologies to anyone younger/older), but as I said before, risk is part of everything. Yeah, I bet that sounded pretty philosophical for a 13 year old teen, but I don't really care. School takes away my social life, and I don't have much of one anyways. I have ADHD and I am mildly dyslexic, so those writing problems are warped around. I have to deal with thieves, bullies, jerks, fair weather friends, and the nagging voice in my head saying "This has no point, why are you doing this, you're a fool." For one thing teachers do not get angry if you disagree with them on a topic. My teachers enjoy the challenge of logical argument. People don't think theres something wrong with you if you don't like it, they think you're normal. School does alot for people and only idiots can't see it's useful, it gives you options for a career, it gives you dicipline, it gives you friends and social contact, it provides social skills and writing skills and the information needed to survive in the world with a steady income and the right behaviour to be able to avoid being locked up in prison for the rest of your life. To all those who hate school: (I am not a frikin nerd, but here's some common sense to you)
School sucks, when you force yourself to think it that way... Most people automatically think there's something serious wrong with you not because you hate school, but because you didnt make the effore
School ruins learning if you only listen to parts of it, as your knowledge would be incomplete then. It is not forced labour as you actually gain knowledge... If we are counting forced labour, shouldn't the teachers be the ones who should be forced? They are the ones that have to face a lot of difficult child and in school and you do ONE homework, but they have to mark the whole class's homework, so it's 28 more homework for them.
You'll forget 90% of it if you don't listen carefully. And even if you did forget 90% of it, at least you gained the 10% of knowledge. And no, you can actually earn money by selling your old books. A diploma helps you look good, when people see it, they are actually more impressed than if you got a high score in MC Domination.
I love chatting with my friends too, but not when it's in class, because then my own enjoyment becomes a disturbment not only to my friends, but my classmates as well.
Classes are only bored when you don't participate in it, will you feel bored if you participate in your favourite board game? I don't think so.
School suppresses wild unreasonable thoughts, if you have a sensible and creative one, they shall stand by and let it through.
If you finish all your work, you won't consider it a waste of time as you will actually begin to enjoy it, and it depends on your defination of 'working'. I for one, don't view working and playing Minecraft at the same time working. And those who cheats on tests aren't actually showing off their real skills and they can never learn any thing.
Grown up people often exclaim that their school years are the best years of their lives. Coz when you grow up and all, you don't get extra holidays like summer holidays, you don't get as much time to hang out with your friends. You no long get off at 3 something, instead, you finish work at 6 something.
That's why it's called homework, if you look carefully, you'll find the words 'HOMEwork' and that's because they dont want to stress you out too much at school and want to leave you a bit of space for enjoying yourself at school. or would you rather spend more time in school to finish your work? Like, get off school at 5 something each day?
No one is perfect, just like no school is perfect. I am pretty sure the school would be happy to hear your thoughts if you speak in an appropriate manner.

This is about me (yay!), and my Mom is the one who wrote it.

I contact the school ahead of time for every prolonged absence. & even a cursory glance at my child's records would show that he consistently misses around the same number school days due to allergy induced sinus infections every year. On top of that, he consistently scores in the highest percentiles on all state mandated tests." I didn't write that.
She then added this gem: "And then to make matters worse, my 6th grader comes home today & tells me the school was on a 3 hour lock-down due to a drug search & seizure. What are the guidance counselors doing to prevent the condoms, cigarettes, & drugs from being rampant in the middle school? I am a teacher, I've worked with kids for the majority of my life, & I am a responsible, involved parent. Is it too much to ask for a little respect from the school district?" and
"I've been fighting the school about this since he was in kindergarten, I've complained to the board that sending vaguely threatening letters regardless of whether the absences are excused scares parents into sending kids to school sick. And it is ridiculous to expect parents to take their children to the doctor for every little thing just because the school no longer recognizes parental discretion"
This is one of the final straws. She is considering putting me in Online School for all of next year, or homeschooling me. I have been home sick for some of the 3rd term, due to my rampant allergies. Both my parents know how I feel, because they just got over it too. My mom also mocks the No Child Left Behind, calling it the Every Child Kept to the Lowest Common Denominator. I just hope I do become homeschooled next year. Wish me luck.

Many kids suffer everyday because of homework and tests. They know they have to get it all done, but sometimes it's too much for them, and they just can't finish it all in one night. I know lots of teachers like giving out homework and stuff, and that isn't good for the students. Yes, you have to learn all those subjects, but too much is not good. And sometimes people get bad grades (mostly because they don't try). I really think schools should stop giving out so much homework. It would be easier for the kids.

i wake up at 5 am to go to school until 4pm, that is 11 hours. WHAT THE FUCK. i have great grades but i hate the place because it wastes my time with shit i don't care about. not to mention once i get home i have a shit load of homework to do. i'm planning on being an engineer, that is the one class that i like and i'm good at. all the other classes are worthless fucking time gluttons.
School is pretty pointless, there's no denying that. So why not find something that interests you, and try to make a profession out of it? Getting a GED isn't a bad alternative either. You can still get a very good paying job with just a GED.
